Wisdom extraction, Simple tooth extraction

What is tooth extraction (Wisdom extraction, Simple tooth extraction)?

It’s the removal of a tooth from its socket in the bone. The extraction process will depend on the location of the tooth. For example, a front tooth is easier to extract than a molar with multiple roots.

There is nothing to fear if the procedure is carried out by an experienced hand.

How SunLake Dental Care can help?

This is a one-stop dental treatment facility that is accessible and affordable to all. Each patient is treated with respect and in a professional manner. At SunLake Dental Care, you’ll find highly trained staff with extensive experience. Some of the staff members like Dr Mike Ghiami have been in practice for more than two decades. His passion is in general dentistry although he has interest in cosmetic dentistry and dental implant. He works alongside his clinic manager Dr Golnaz Fazeli.

The team is committed to working with you to give a rewarding dental experience. It’s worth mentioning that the clinic uses state-of-the-art technology to ensure quality services.

Once you visit the clinic, the caring team will take you the tooth extraction procedure. Unlike the competition, SunLake involves the patient in every decision process. The idea is to paint a clear picture that focuses on meeting your expectations.

Prior to surgery, the dentist will evaluate your medical history to get a general understating of your mouth. The dentist will then plan for a precise and effective treatment by taking an x-ray of the problem area.

The extraction process is carried out with local anaesthesia to numb the teeth and the surrounding tissues. Normally, the dentist is very careful not to damage the bone. Once the process is over, the socket is covered with sterile gauze to control the bleeding. It’s normal if you feel some discomfort.

Lastly, the dentist will prescribe some pain medication/antibiotics to ensure infection-free healing. And depending on your surgery, he may recommend a restricted diet for 7-10 days. Everything is simplified, so your life will be back to normal in a few days.

Types of tooth extractions

There are two main types of tooth extraction:

  • Simple extraction
  • Wisdom teeth extraction

Simple extraction

It’s performed on the tooth that can be seen on the mouth – the tooth that has already erupted from the gum line. The dentist shakes the teeth with an elevator (a specialized tool) until the periodontal ligaments break. He then uses a pair of forceps to extract the tooth. The process is performed with an injection to numb the area around the tooth. Simple tooth extractions are preferred whenever feasible because they have fewer adverse effects. This procedure is carried out if the tooth is damaged, broken, or decayed.

Wisdom teeth extraction

This is a complex procedure commonly done by oral surgeons. Normally, the doctor makes a small incision into the gum to gain access to the tooth. In some cases, the tooth is fragmented into small pieces. The level of discomfort will depend on how difficult it was to extract the tooth.

The procedure is usually performed when the tooth is severely damaged or in cases where there is not enough space for the tooth. If your dentist suggests you go through the procedure, postponing the extraction could cause infection, pain, or misalignment of teeth.
